About the ranking

2019 is the first year with an official ranking system in the European Footvolley League and we set the ranking for each country based on their placements in the 2019 European Footvolley Championship (EFC) in Graz, Austria 🇦🇹.

There has never been placement games in the EFC, so in case of equal placements we have also used the placements from the EFC in 2017 and 2016 to separate the countries.

In case of tie breaks between countries we separated them with the following tie breakers:

  1. Match wins (first 2018, second 2017, third 2016)

  2. Head to head (first 2018, second 2017, third 2016)

  3. Point difference (first 2018, second 2017, third 2016)

Ranking points system

This is the ranking point system used for all three qualification tournaments in 2019. For the European Footvolley Championship in Lucerne the qualification points counted double.

Ranking points after Qualification 1 in Graz

The ranking for 2019 will count 50% after the first qualification and for qualification 2 and 3 it will not count anymore. This gives us the following ranking before the start of Qualification 2 in Schwäbisch Gmünd.

If there is a tie the best placement from the latest tournament will count. If it is still a tie the best result from the second latest tournament will count etc. Here are the ties:

  • Spain and France have the same amount of points, but Spain won in Graz 2019 and ranks ahead of France.

  • Netherlands, Norway, Germany and Switzerland all have the same amount of points, but Netherlands and Norway had a better placement in Graz 2019. Netherlands are in front of Norway with a better placement in the EFC 2018. Germany ranks ahead of Switzerland with a better placement in the EFC 2018.

Based on this it gives us the following ranking after the first qualification tournament in Graz.

Ranking points after Qualification 2 in Schwäbisch Gmünd

The ranking for 2019 will count 50% after the first qualification and for qualification 2 and 3 it will not count anymore. This gives us the following ranking before the start of Qualification 3 in Albufeira.

If there is a tie the best placement from the latest tournament will count. If it is still a tie the best result from the second latest tournament will count etc. Here are the ties:

  • Germany ahead of Switzerland. They had same result in Gmünd, Graz and EFC 2018, but Germany placed higher in EFC 2017 (#4 vs #8)

  • Germany ahead of Norway with a better placement in Graz 2019 (#5 vs #9)

  • Switzerland ahead of Norway with a better placement in Graz 2019 (#5 vs #9)

  • Greece ahead of Belgium. They had same result in Gmünd, Graz and EFC 2018, but Greece placed higher in EFC 2017 (#4 vs #8)

  • Croatia ahead of Sweden. They had same result in Gmünd and Graz, but Croatia placed higher in EFC 2017 (#7 vs #8)

Based on this it gives us the following ranking after the second qualification tournament in Schwäbisch Gmünd.

Ranking points after Qualification 3 in Albufeira

Below you can see the current European ranking after the third and last qualification tournament in Albufeira.; This is the deciding ranking after 3 stages of qualification.

The Finals played in Lucerne, Switzerland, was based on this ranking, and gave us:

  • The top 12 nations are qualified to participate in the official European Footvolley Championship 2019

  • The top 3 (Portugal, Spain and France) each can send a 2nd team.

  • The host nation (Switzerland) also has a 2nd team
