Israeli and Austria win third European title in Bastia 2024
The 2024 European Footvolley Championship concluded with a resounding victory for the defending champions, Israel (Men) and Austria (Women). Held in the picturesque French city of Bastia, the tournament showcased the sport's growing popularity and intense competition.
The Israeli men Ron Ben Ishai & Maor Haas and Austrian women Julia Rauch & Antonia Missethan once again proved their mastery on the sand, retaining their titles from the previous year's EFVL Finals in Albufeira 2023. While there was no change in the overall power dynamic, the tournament highlighted a noticeable improvement in the general level of play, with several emerging talents making their mark. Despite being highly anticipated, several of the pre-tournament favorites failed to reach the final stages. Almost always after really close and intense battles.
The European Footvolley Federation, in collaboration with FV France and the local organizer Corsica FTV, successfully elevated the visibility of footvolley in this 8th edition of the championship. With the partnership of the city of Bastia the legendary Place de Saint-Nicolas was transformed into a stunning beach stadium, providing a captivating backdrop for the intense matches. The crowd in the stands was electric with excitement.
The tournament served as a platform for athletes from across Europe to showcase their skills and compete for glory. As footvolley continues to gain momentum, the European Championship remains a cornerstone event for the sport, attracting both established players and rising stars.
