Albufeira

Albufeira is a coastal city in the southern Algarve region of Portugal. It’s a former fishing village that has become a major holiday destination, with sandy beaches and a busy nightlife strip. Local fishermen now use the modern marina, also a base for diving, dolphin-watching and boat trips. It's surrounded by candy-colored apartments, with a waterfront promenade.

About

The National Footvolley Federation - Portugal (FNFV) was founded in 2005, and since then has organized some of the major national and international events in the sport.

At the European level a historical step was taken in 2015 by starting up a movement for the development of the sport - The EFVL -, which resulted in the organization of the first European Footvolley Championship in 2016 in the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd (Germany) where the champions of 12 countries competed for the European title.

The FNFV immediatly proposed  to organize the European Championship in Portugal, more specifically in the city of Albufeira. In 2017 our offer was accepted by the European Footvolley League (EFVL).

The event

The 2nd edition of the European Footvolley Championship will be held on the famous Praia dos Pescadores in Albufeira, Algarve-Portugal, from June 22nd to 25th.

The championship will bring together the national teams from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Spain, France, Greece, Netherlands, Italy, Norway, Portugal, United Kingdom and Switzerland. They will compete for the 2017 European title.

The location

The region of Algarve in Portugal is one of the best kept secrets in Europe, for its spectacular coastline and sandy beaches, outstanding landscapes, hospitality and its mediterranean climate.

Choosing Algarve in the beginning of summer was a strategic decision, and it should be noted that the region has 3.7 million visitors per year, and most of these national and international tourists chose the city of Albufeira as their vacation spot, averaging 1.5 million visitors in each year.

On the days of this event, around 135,000 people are expected in Albufeira, with the beautiful Praia dos Pescadores in the heart of the city, one of the key places to visit.
